known to leave behind a pretty nice trail
and be easily sidetracked into long
conversations of the Bear Mtn. Trail. Often
referencing trees that no longer exist.

Bernerd
"Ya know there's a road already there, just might take some work. Go to the spruce tree in the field turn 90' to your left and it's right there"
Bernerd, circa 1993
About 1990 three individuals from Wood
Street embarked on chasing a sled track
through the woods across the Davis road.
What was found was a trace of trail that was in dire need of resurection. Mother nature had not been kind and the runoff from the hill exposed boulders that three contractors did not want to help with.
We met Bernerd up there that first year and he has verbally guided us around the region, as he was working out of town. Years of walking and not seeing the forest for the trees ensued with some minor adjustments being made. '97 logged the "Thompson Lot" (removed "THE" big pine tree) and started dreams.
Land sales, susequent logging and associated road construction left us with having to conect the lots. That was finally accomplished in 2003-2004, when Bernerd poached a dozer for 100 hrs..
This was actually a mutually benefitting arangement with the land owner providing the equipment to build the road with an operator with our interests at heart. A massive operation in the Fall of' the 04-'05 led to some confusion and excitement as Much of the trail on the Mtn. was widened beyond recognition. An additional road was constructed and will hopefully be available to us and allow for an additional low snow trail that will be more than adequate.
This region as of the 2007-08
season is extremely sensitive.
There are now many landowners
and a road association to deal
with. They have established rules
to abide by OR WE WILL LOSE THE
PRIVILEDGE OF THE TRAIL. These
are posted at the access points.

add 3 minutes to the ride across
